Faith and justice into action in the Gallatin Valley and beyond.

Justice-seeking. Radical-grace. Risky faith.

Our faith calls each one of us in action to seek justice and liberation.

The 2023 Legislative Session

The 2023 Montana State Legislature has been up and running for two weeks, and we are beginning to see the shape of some legislation. A BUMC Social Justice Action Team task force (the legislative squad) is tracking some bills related to issues that, if passed, would impact either positively or negatively the social well-being of people within our state, particularly those who are marginalized. The squad will inform the congregation about their findings.

A local state senator told us there will probably be 4000+ bills introduced into the legislature this session. Of those, perhaps 1500 will come out of committee for vote and about 500 are likely to be passed. The bills we lift up will be a minuscule portion of that overwhelming number!

In future weeks, we will be encouraging those with strong feelings about bills being considered to contact house and senate members to let them know how their constituents view the issues.
